ROYGBIVegetables. And those are just the scrubbed veggies.

Still more to clean up:

This week’s finds:

We only went to 3 dumpsters, but we got a TON of stuff. This is just a portion of it.

Also got a bunch of bagged salad mix, veggies (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower), and slaw mix. All in perfectly edible condition. And we found two bags of pistachios (score!), several boxes of chocolate covered peanuts, and a couple boxes of a nuts/dried fruit mix. Crazy.

So much delicious food. Can you believe this is all supposed to be rotting away in a landfill right now? Not even compost to grow more food with. A landfill. Pure waste.

We also got a can of spaghetti sauce and a can of dog food which is probably being eaten by my friend’s cats right now. Eat up, kittens! Even cats can be little anarchist freegans!

Tonight’s Finds

  • 2 cucumbers
  • 5 green bell peppers
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 2 yellow bell peppers
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 1 roma tomato
  • 1 package of button mushrooms (about 10)
  • 4 limes
  • 1 bag of sunflower seeds
  • 2 bags of “all fruit” trail mix
  • 1 jar of honey mustard dressing (not vegan)
  • 3 six pack things of ranch veggie dip (not vegan)
  • another huge bag of bagels from the bagel shop

Pretty decent finds tonight. My eyes lit up when I opened the lid and saw all those beautiful peppers. I’m really excited about the limes and tomatoes (though extremely winter-pink). I smell vegan tacos!

Tonight’s Finds

Slim pickings tonight, unfortunately. We got:

  • bok choy
  • small cabbage
  • 3 or 4 carrots
  • a couple radishes
  • 1 tomato
  • broccoli

and:

  • a huge bag of various bagels from a bagel place

My share was half the bok choy, half the broccoli, all the carrots, and two grocery bags of bagels.

First Dive

This weekend was my very first dumpster dive in Wilmington, NC!

Here’s a list of the loot:

  • 2 large carrots
  • 3 large and 2 small cucumbers
  • A TON of kale and chard and a few random bits of other hearty leafy greens
  • 1 large head of leaf lettuce
  • 1 head of iceburg lettuce
  • 1 package of that Live Lettuce stuff with the roots (why not just grow your own?)
  • 1 eggplant (Janae’s spectacular find)
  • 2 gala apples
  • 1 bunch of celery
  • 2 packages of baby red potatoes
  • 1 large green bell pepper
  • several bags of bean sprouts (these may not be any good, haven’t investigated yet)

Oh, and Janae found a huge potted poinsettia and couldn’t leave without it, but it was pretty messed up so we ended up dumping it and repurposing the pot as a trashcan.
